The dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively, surprised and alarmed the world due to the destructive power of the new weapon. Furthermore, it brought new challenges to international law and diplomacy, completely transforming international relations, as it has since become the main indicator of political-military power in the international system of states. In this text, the author intends to analyze and propose a discussion about the historical, scientific-technological, political-diplomatic, and military events that led the United States to enter World War II and, subsequently, launch the nuclear attack against Japan, an event that inaugurated the Nuclear Age.
