Importance of research ethics in the legal area

Ethics in research is fundamental to guarantee the integrity, dignity and rights of participants, whether they are human beings, animals or the environment. In the field of Law, ethics in research is important to train professionals committed to justice and social and moral values, contributing to a more equitable and plural society. The article seeks to highlight the importance of ethics in legal research, explaining the need for approval by Research Ethics Committees (CEPs) to guarantee protection and respect for participants, in addition to promoting research practice aligned with ethical principles. The article uses a documentary and analytical approach, reviewing the main national regulations on research ethics, such as CNS Resolution nº 466/2012. Awareness and compliance with regulations, such as National Health Council guidelines, are essential to ensure respectful and safe research. Ethics in research in the field of Law is fundamental to fostering innovation and ensuring that the production of knowledge is of high quality, interdisciplinary and ethically responsible.
